Tanglewood is nearly here!

Tanglewood, a 16-bit side-scroller harking back to platformers of the 90s, is coming out on Sega’s magnificent Megadrive on 14th August (and steam for you PC owners).
Set in the realm of Tanglewood, the game follows a young creature, Nymn, separated from the pack after the sun sets. Unable to get back to the safety of the family’s underground home, Nymn must find a way to survive the night terrors and get to morning. Tanglewood’s world is a dangerous one after dark; guiding Nymn you must use your skills of evasion, traps and trickery to defeat predators.
Now Tanglewood is coming out on Mega Drive on an actual physical cart, which is playable on consoles from any region, and in a box any fan of the Mega Drive will instantly recognise. According to a note from developer Big Evil Corp via their kickstarter page, this Mega Drive version of the game is primarily reserved for backers of Tanglewood’s Kickstarter, which raised over £54,000. However, you can still get involved by pre-ordering now to be in batch #2 which will be released in October 2018.
It’s amazing to thing Tanglewood was produced using authentic Sega Mega Drive development hardware by Matt Phillips, a programmer who’s previous work credentials also include working at Traveller’s Tales and Crytek. The whole game was programmed in 68000 assembly language, using original Sega development tools (which by themselves are a git to find in good condition) and using the methodology and work process that teams back in the day also undertook. As a result Tanglewood should feel like a forgotten classic that we have rediscovered.
