Yesterday during Opening Night Live for Gamescom 2021, Ubisoft officially revealed the first story trailer for Far Cry 6. Fans have known the rough outline of the story so far based on a few facts and the general theme of Far Cry games, now they know much more though.
The game casts players as Dani Rojas, a resistance fighter who is leading a guerrilla group of soldiers in a battle to liberate the island of Yara. The island is a tropical paradise that’s become frozen in time under a dictatorship. Anton Castillo, played by Giancarlo Esposito of Breaking Bad fame, is the main antagonist this time around.
Castillo wants to keep Yara as it is, and prevent any outsiders from coming in to remove him from power. That’s why a guerrilla group is working from the inside to dethrone him instead. The thing is, the army he has at his disposal is powerful.
Ubisoft describes Yara as its biggest open world in the Far Cry universe yet. It offers a lot for players in terms of exploration, activities, and collectibles, and there are, of course, dozens of secrets for players to uncover as well.
The developers of the game have been discussing how much there is to do in the game to keep players engaged. It’s far more than just main and side quests, there is a plethora of mini activities for players to get involved with, including dominoes.
Ubisoft explained that it wanted to add value to every part of the game, which is why there are so many of these minor activities scattered around the island of Yara. This, like it does in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, will keep fans playing for much longer.
Far Cry 6 is so much more than its story though. The game has more companions to find, more iconic moments, and a host of brand new mechanics, such as the backpack. This can be modified with various weapon attachments and customised for every battle. Players will never have the same experience as someone else because there’s so much that’s open for players to do here.
